Emergency readmissions within 28 days indicator
Percentage of patients who were readmitted as emergencies
How is the Trust doing?

| Rolling year to date (January 2011 – December 2011) | 3.3% |
|---|---|
| Rolling 3 years (January 2009 – December 2011) | 2.5% |
Lower percentage indicates better performance.
The percentage of patients readmitted as emergencies within 28 days following first-time, isolated CABG remains within the range of expected variation.
Why is this indicator important?
The percentage of patients readmitted to hospital with 28 days of discharge following their operation can indicate early complications after discharge and how appropriate the original decision made to discharge was. Some emergency readmissions are to be expected given the complex nature of the patients the Trust treats.
How do we measure this indicator?
The percentage of patients readmitted as emergencies within 28 days of discharge from hospital following first-time, isolated CABG remains stable. This also includes patients readmitted as emergencies to other hospitals within the West Midlands region to give a more accurate picture.
