What you can do to help prevent DVT
The following will help you to reduce the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT):
- Walk around as much as possible
- Drink plenty of fluid
- When resting, raise your leg to reduce the pressure in your calves
- Always follow your doctor’s advice, e.g. to wear support stockings
For more information on deep vein thrombosis, please ask the nursing staff or your GP. Further information is also available on the Lifeblood: the Thrombosis Charity website.
