The team

Our patients benefit from the knowledge and experience of some of the most highly regarded liver and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) specialists whose experience of treating the most complex conditions means that your care is world class.

The team consists of:

  • eight consultant surgeons performing liver transplantation and HPB surgery
  • eleven hepatologists, two of which are Professors
  • three dedicated liver and HPB radiologists
  • two dedicated liver and HPB pathologists
  • one organ transplantation pathologist
  • a Professor of Oncology supported by two Senior Lecturers

"Birmingham Liver and HPB Unit provides all aspects of care to patients with hepato-pancreatic biliary disease and this includes highly complex interventional radiology. This includes a daily endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) service which combines the use of endoscopy (a flexible telescope to look inside your gut) and X-ray technology to examine the pancreatic and bile ducts, plus all aspects of diagnostic radiology in addition to a complete surgical service.

"The Radiology Department provides all aspects of cutting edge radiology including a fully staffed out-of-hours service. The endoscopic ultrasound service (EUS) performs more EUS than any other unit in the UK.

"If you are a patient with any aspect of liver or HPB disease then there is no better place in the UK to be treated than Birmingham Liver and HPB Unit."
