A hospital designed by patients and staff
Hundreds of the Trust’s staff and many patient representatives helped design the hospital and plan its services. This work will continue through the phased moves to ensure the transfer into the new building goes smoothly and services are the best they can be at every stage.
We have worked closely with the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, whose military ward moved to the new hospital in June 2010, and with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust whose facilities opened on the site in 2008.
We also benefit from valuable support and guidance from many other organisations, including South Birmingham Primary Care Trust, the lead commissioner of our services, and Birmingham City Council.
The first services moved into the new hospital in June 2010 with the remainder due to follow in five further moves.
Part of the old QE will then be refurbished and become part of the new hospital, while the Selly Oak Hospital site will be released for new homes.
Together, we have created a new hospital that provides the very best care for the communities we serve in Birmingham, across the Midlands and beyond for decades to come.
