The team from R&D Signs prepares the artwork which traces the history of Selly Oak Hospital

History celebrated at QEHB

Story posted/last updated: 23 August 2010

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s spectacular main entrance now has a fascinating new piece of artwork celebrating the history of one of its predecessors, Selly Oak Hospital.

Selly Oak was the site of a workhouse, infirmary and hospital from around 1755, with the modern buildings and hospital dating back to 1911.

A 40-foot display tracing the hospital’s history has now been erected by R&D Signs, and has already drawn considerable interest from patients, visitors and staff.

The display is a larger replica of one first shown at the End of an Era event in May to mark the imminent closure Selly Oak Hospital. That event drew more than 3,500 people for fun fair activities and to sign giant memorial images of the hospital.
