Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Proposed strike action, 30 November

Story posted/last updated: 28 November 2011

A number of trade unions have balloted to take strike action next week in response to proposed Government changes to public sector workers’ pensions.

The action will take place on Wednesday 30 November and will last for 24 hours.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust will endeavour to ensure that, wherever possible, patients’ care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Selly Oak Hospital is not disrupted.

All emergency services – A&E, Clinical Decision Unit – will be unaffected, as will all cancer surgery, cancer outpatient appointments, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Scheduled appointments/procedures are currently due to go ahead as planned.

However, the Trust will not know exactly how many of its staff will strike until the day of the action and regrettably may have to cancel part, or all of a patient’s attendance on the morning of the 30th.

The Trust is currently contacting all patients to offer them the option of rebooking their appointment for another day and apologises in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused.

If you have an appointment scheduled for 30 November and have any concerns, please contact the relevant department on your appointment letter.
