Meet your patient governors
Patient governors must live outside the public constituencies of Birmingham and they must be current or former patients or carers of people who have previously used our specialist and regional services.
Ian Fairbairn
Ian, formerly a senior chartered accountant, has been a patient at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) for over 12 years. Through his experience of undergoing a liver transplant, Ian has become passionate about supporting the hospital and "giving something back" to the NHS. He hopes to provide a patient perspective on services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).
Aprella Fitch
Now retired, Aprella – who is a patient at QEHB - worked as an external projects manager. For the past two years she has been a Trust ambassador and heavily involved in the patient and carer councils. She is an avid fundraiser for the QEHB Charity and won UHB’s Member of the Year at the 2011 Best in Care Awards.
Shirley Turner
Shirley is a member and chairperson of the Patient Council. She has also been involved in several of UHB's steering groups. Now retired, Shirley worked in senior sales management and has worked for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
