Radiation Protection Services (RRPPS)

RRPPS is the radiation physics and protection service based within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Through these pages you can find details of selected services offered by RRPPS and request further details to be sent to you by post.

RRPPS is the largest and most experienced organisation in the Midlands providing a comprehensive radiation protection service. It aims to provide the advice and support facilities required to enable clients to comply with health and safety legislation and good practice obligations.

If you are thinking of buying ultrasound machines, lasers, magnetic resonance imagers or X-ray machines, or will be using radioactive materials, we can offer the following services:

  • Ensure compliance with the legislation eg, Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999, and Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulation 2000 and other relevant legislation and good practice guidance
  • Provide independent advice covering:
  • The design and purchase of new facilities
  • Critical examination of new equipment and premises
  • Routine surveys
  • Supply dosemeters for staff and patients' monitoring
