Sexual health research
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is one of the major providers of sexual health services in Birmingham. The Trust provides diagnosis and treatment at the main Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) site and at the Whittall Street Clinic in the city centre. As well as carrying out this important work with patients, the hospital has an active research programme into various areas of sexual health.
Sexual health is a complex specialty, dealing with many vulnerable patients and covering a wide range of conditions, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Under the leadership of Professor Jonathan Ross, the research underway into sexual health treatments is broken into three main areas:
- Health service delivery
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- HIV
