Outpatients
If you have acquired a problem with speech, language, swallowing, voice or if you stammer, you may be referred by your GP or hospital doctor for out patient Speech and Language Therapy. You may also continue to see us as an out patient following your hospital stay.
When you attend your appointment your therapist will spend some time getting to know you and your particular needs, find out how your problems affect you in everyday life and offer information, advice, strategies and/or exercises to help. There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. There may also be some questionnaires for you to complete.
There is also the possibility that you will be seen as an outpatient when you visit the doctors. This may go on for sometime, until you and the therapists are happy that you have reached a point where you are coping to the best of your ability. This may also involve talking and working with your relatives and friends to help them improve their listening skills.
If you are not easily able to attend an outpatient appointment the team will arrange to see you in your own home.
