Heartlands Treatment Centre (HTC)

About HTC

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has opened a brand new centre at Heartlands Hospital. Half-a-million patients will be treated each year in the four-storey building, which houses a wide range of health services including diagnostics, day surgery, outpatients, therapies and imaging services.

Our new building

The £97m investment in facilities will meet the evolving needs of the population that Heartlands Hospital serves. Having opened in January 2023, the building covers an 18,000m2 footprint, with each floor being around 3,600m2 – approximately half the size of the pitch at Wembley Stadium. The new build provides a modern, spacious environment purpose-built to meet the needs of our patients with dementia-friendly and accessible design features.

Built to the highest construction and environmental standards, HTC makes use of sustainable features to reduce its carbon footprint. HTC delivers new ways of working and embraces the latest technologies, all whilst delivering the best possible care and high-quality specialist services.

Services

Offering world-class facilities, HTC houses a wide range of services and provide care for nearly half a million patients each year, with 1,500 appointments taking place each day.

The centre contains:

The new Outpatients department features multi-language, and disabled-friendly, self-check-in kiosks for patients, and way finding facilities are available on each floor, aiding patients and staff to quickly familiarise themselves with the new building and patients can wait for their appointment in large, comfortable waiting areas.

There are wheelchair friendly and gender neutral toilets on every level, as well as a Changing Places toilet available for patients and staff with complex disabilities, baby changing and feeding facilities, and patient changing rooms and lockers.
