Mr Ather AbdelbakyConsultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Associate Professor
Mr Abdelbaky completed medical school at Cairo University, Egypt. After completing basic surgical training at the North West of England and obtaining membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, he completed a research fellowship at Addenbrooke’s hospital transplant unit in Cambridge.
He was appointed as a urology specialist registrar at the North East Deanery Urology Training program, where he was trained by nationally and internationally recognised mentors at laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Meanwhile he conducted three years of research and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine from the Institute of Cellular Medicine at Newcastle University.
Mr Abdelbaky studied patient reported outcomes following major cancer surgery and presented his research work nationally and internationally at British, European and American Urology and Oncology conferences.
In 2015, Mr Abdelbaky was appointed as a Urology Consultant Surgeon, and he led the introduction of Robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer at both Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals for the first time. He has a great interest at medical education and holds an Honorary Associate Professor role at the University of Birmingham.
