Discharge Lounge

Discharge Lounge at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

The Discharge Lounge, is a comfortable, safe and relaxing environment for patients to be collected by transport, friend or family member and is open between the hours of 07:30 – 19:30.

Patients due to transfer to the Discharge Lounge will be notified by ward staff on either the day before their expected discharge date or on the day of discharge. Ward staff will also advise the patient’s carers and relatives that they can be collected from the Discharge Lounge, rather than the ward.

Discharge Lounge staff continue to deliver the highest level of patient care, and ensure that the final part of a patients stay at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) is a restful one. Here, staff will:

  • ensure that patients have the correct medication and paperwork before they return home
  • book transport for patients who meet the criteria or arrange a taxi if required

The lounge has hot and cold refreshments including:

  • tea
  • coffee
  • fresh fruit
  • cake
  • hot meal

The Discharge Lounge is now part of the patient pathway, so patients should expect to be collected from the Discharge Lounge at the end of their stay.
