Clinical governance

Clinical governance is the way the NHS works to improve the quality of care patients receive and to maintain that high quality of care. It is about ensuring that patients get the right care at the right time from the right person and that it happens right first time.

At University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, overall responsibility for clinical governance lies with the Medical Director.

However, clinical governance is the responsibility of every member of staff, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers, laboratory staff, cleaners, porters and administrative staff. Everyone works together to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
