Waste

Large volumes of waste may be generated by frequent use of PPE; advice from the local waste management team should be sought prospectively on how to manage this. Dispose of all waste as clinical waste.
Waste from a possible or a confirmed case must be disposed of as Category B waste.
If ambulant and in a side-room, the patient can use the en-suite WC. If bedpans are used, manage waste as infectious (with clinell® absorbent spill pad normally kept in locked cupboard in the sluice) and dispose of in double clinical waste (orange) bags whilst wearing clean PPE, and then leave inside the room.
Communal facilities must not be used.
Waste should not removed from the room or disposed of in the macerator.
