Deceased patients

When dealing with deceased patients with known or suspected Covid-19:
- The principles of standard infection control precautions continue to apply whilst deceased patients remain in the care environment
- Infectious deceased patients should be in a body bag lined on the base with procedure pads. The body, including the face, should then be covered with a sheet
- Where a deceased patient was known or suspected to have been infected with Covid-19 viewings are only supported in very exceptional circumstances at present
- PPE requirements are surgical mask, aprons and gloves. FFP3 is only required for postmortem activities that are likely to generate aerosols
- The checklist for deceased patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 must be completed
