The following PPE guidance has been issued for ward staff when they are dealing with COVID+ patients who are being discharged to private care providers.
Individuals who are going to a private provider following discharge from hospital will need to be given a supply of PPE.
There are two routes to equipping a patient with PPE on discharge that have been outlined below:
1. When restarting a package of care for a COVID+ patient and no TOC has been submitted
The COVID + status of the patient needs to be made clear to the agency.
The individual needs to be discharged with a five day supply of PPE for the care agency organised by the ward. This comprises of 20 sets of:
- gloves
- masks
- aprons
The PPE will need to come from the ward supplies.
2. When ongoing care is being set up by the Discharge Hub for a COVID+ patient and TOC has been submitted
When ongoing care is being set up by the Discharge Hub, Discharge Hub staff will ensure that the patient leaves with a five day supply of PPE at the point of discharge. This comprises of 20 sets of:
- gloves
- masks
- aprons
