LAMP self-testing kits

UHB has been selected to provide loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) testing to staff. Testing has been carried out by a number of staff within the Research and Development department and it is now expanding to further areas. Staff will be notified if LAMP testing is available in their area.
LAMP testing is voluntary but we encourage all staff to participate if their area is selected for testing. It is important that we protect our patients and colleagues, vaccinated or not, by ensuring that all staff continue to maintain regular asymptomatic testing and continue to follow infection prevention and control guidance to stop onward transmission of COVID-19. There are thousands of people, including staff working in patient-facing NHS roles that will not yet have been vaccinated.
Even after being vaccinated, staff should continue to carry out regular asymptomatic testing. We know that vaccinated people will have more protection from COVID-19, and there is some early evidence that it can prevent a person’s ability to transmit the virus, but it does not yet give guarantees that you cannot transmit the virus. Staff, whether they have had the vaccine or not, should therefore continue to assume that transmission is possible and keep following infection, prevention and control guidance, and continue testing regularly.
