PCR testing for staff
Last updated: 30 January 2025 at 16:59
We are now able to test all members of staff who are absent from work due to either COVID-19-related symptoms or if they are living with someone who is symptomatic. A PCR test can tell you whether or not you currently have the virus, and is best carried out between two days before the onset of symptoms and seven days after the onset of symptoms.
PCR testing for staff on site
If you are working on site and develop COVID-19 symptoms, or have been advised by the Infection Prevention and Control Team that you are part of an outbreak area, you must request a PCR test via the new electronic PCR testing process.
This process has been designed to ensure your results are returned to you in a timely manner via a text SMS message, rather than waiting for a call from Occupational Health.
To request your PCR test electronically:
- Double click on the "PCR testing" icon on your Trust desktop (the icon appears as a blue circle with "PCR" in the middle), or visit the link below in your Trust browser
- Register to use the system, if you have not already - you'll need to provide contact details
- You will then receive a unique ID number. This should be used every time you need to use the system again in the future
- Once you've logged in with your ID number, you can request a PCR test
- Take your PCR test and return it using the instructions provided
The PCR electronic request system can be accessed at:
Once your results are ready, they will be sent to the contact number you provided via text message. A confirmation of your results will also be sent to your line manager.
Please note, this process is only for staff displaying COVID-19 symptoms or if they have been advised by Infection Prevention and Control.
If you have received a positive lateral flow test, you do not need a confirmatory PCR test and will need to isolate as per government guidelines.
At home PCR testing
If you are unwell at home and are unable to attend a community test center, you can request a PCR test be sent to your home address.
Please contact the Occupational Health Team by 12:00 to have a PCR test delivered to you. In your email address you should include your name, date of birth, and contact phone number.
