Putting on PPE

Last updated: 28 October 2021 at 20:16

Staff should put PPE on before entering the room in the following order:

  1. FFP3 respirator or Respirator Hood and check the fit
  2. Long sleeved fluid-repellent disposable gown
  3. Eye protection
  4. Disposable gloves

It is recommended to apply the hood before the gown, as when removing PPE, the gown will need to be removed before the hood. For FFP3 masks they can be applied after the gown.

The order given above for putting on is practical but is less critical than the order of removal. During donning each item must be adjusted as required to ensure it fits correctly and interfaces well with other PPE items.

Due to the pressure on global supplies of equipment used to protect health workers from infection, you may find you are required to use a different kind of PPE than that you are used to. Please be assured that all kit provided is compliant with appropriate control standards to protect our members of staff and that the Trust is working with suppliers to ensure we have sufficient stock across our sites.
