University of Birmingham 3rd year medical students
This two-hour simulation session will take place during semester 2 and involves the introduction of standardised simulation scenarios which have been developed in line with the current curriculum. It is aimed at improving your awareness of a human factors approach to patient safety.
Please report 15 minutes before the start of your session.
The course includes a 15-minute introduction and 15 minutes orientation on SimMan.

This half-day simulation session will take place during your specialty medicine block, and involves the introduction of standardised simulation scenarios which have been developed in line with the current curriculum. It is designed to improve your awareness of a human factors approach to patient safety.

You will have two full-day simulation sessions during your AIP block, which have been developed in line with the current curriculum.
This training is designed to improve your awareness of a human factors approach to patient safety.

Scenarios
The scenarios will consist of AIP-related emergency scenarios and will give you the ability to practice, in a safe environment, clinical cases that you will be expected to manage when commencing your foundation programme.
By completing these scenarios you will be able to put together the technical (e.g. resuscitation) and non-technical (e.g. negotiation, communication) skills in the care of an acutely unwell simulated patient.
University of Birmingham 5th year medical students: obstetrics and gynaecology
This half-day simulation session will take place during your obstetrics and gynaecological specialty placement, and involves the introduction of standardised simulation scenarios which have been developed in line with the current curriculum. It is aimed at improving your awareness of a human factors approach to patient safety.
All sessions will take place in the Clinical Skills Centre at Good Hope Hospital.
