Rachel trained as a general nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the early 80’s, moving to Birmingham in 1988. After working in theatres and neurology, she moved into neurology research in 1992. During her time at UHB, Rachel has been involved in many pharmaceutical and academic trials.

Due to her experiences in research, Rachel has been involved in creating research nurse competencies at UHB. These have been reviewed, adapted and adopted by the Royal College of Nursing. Rachel has also worked for the Research and Development department at UHB for two years in an auditing capacity for locally sponsored trials across all disciplines, including pharmaceutical quality assurance audits and two Trust MHRA audits.

Rachel spent two years as the nurse manager in a job share on the Clinical Research Facility at UHB until March 2010, and was then the Lead Research Nurse Manager from April 2010 to December 2013. She was then seconded into the business manager’s post within the Research and Development department. She became the Clinical Nurse Manager for the 100,000 Genomes Project at UHB in 2016 before returning to a Lead Research Nurse post in 2019.

She is responsible for leading research teams across all UHB sites, ensuring that high-quality research is delivered to patients across multiple specialties.
