Battery alarms

The battery power gauge on the system controller shows the approximate charge status of the power source that is connected to the white and black power cables of either the mobile power unit (MPU) or the 14 volt lithium-ion batteries.

The number of green bars indicates the amount of power remaining. More green bars indicate more power remaining:

First battery alarm

The first battery alarm can be identified as follows:

• Flashing yellow diamond on the user interface
• 'Low battery' and 'replace power' will alternate on the screen
• Slow beep alarm tone

This is an initial alarm to indicate that power input to the system controller is low and there is less than 15 minutes of battery left or the system controller power cables are crossed when connected to the MPU.

To resolve this promptly, connect to a working or different power source by either changing the two lithium ion batteries or connecting to the MPU.

Call your LVAD coordinator if connecting to power does not resolve the alarm.

The alarm can be silenced for five minutes by pressing the 'silence alarm' button or until a new hazard alarm occurs.

Second battery alarm

The second battery alarm can be identified as follows:

• Flashing red battery on the user interface
• 'Low battery' and 'replace power immediately' will alternate on the screen
• Constant alarm tone
• Pump will enter power save mode

The above indicates that there is less than five minutes of battery power remaining or that the system controller is receiving inadequate power from the MPU.

Connect to a working power source of either two fully charged batteries or the MPU.

The alarm can be silenced for two minutes by pressing the 'silence alarm' button or until a new hazard alarm occurs.

Third battery alarm (final alarm)

The third battery alarm can be identified as follows:

• Flashing red battery on the user interface
• 'Connect power immediately', backup battery graphic and a timer counting up will alternate on the display screen
• Flashing yellow lights near the black and white power cable connector
• Loud constant alarm tone

The above indicates that the system controller is not receiving power from either power cable and the pump is being powered by the system controller’s lithium-ion backup battery. The backup battery provides power to the pump for at least 15 minutes when fully charged.

Immediately connect the system controller power cables to a working power source of either two fully charged batteries or the MPU.

If connecting to power does not resolve the alarm, please contact the on call LVAD coordinator immediately.
