Treatment and medication

Once all testing and investigation process is complete, patients will have a follow up appointment. The treatment provided at Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital is ovulation induction. If ovulation induction is unsuccessful or the best course of treatment is IVF or IUI, you will be referred to another care provider.

Treatment we offer at UHB

Following completion of your investigations, there are a number of different pathways depending on your fertility journey.

Fertility medication available

  • Letrozole
  • Clomiphene Citrate

Clomiphene Citrate is a medication used in follicle tracking at UHB.

Letrozole is a medication also sometimes given for follicle tracking treatment at UHB.

Either of these tablets can be advised following a consultation where follicle tracking treatment/ovulation induction is required. This usually depends on the findings from your fertility investigations. This treatment involves patients attending for ultrasound scans at the hospital on various days from Day 10 of their menstrual cycle to track for ovulation. The treatment involves patients attending for scans and blood tests if ovulation has been seen by the nurses. If ovulation has been confirmed on a Progesterone blood test, patients will continue with the medication at home on their remaining cycles. Medication doses may be increased if required. If pregnancy has not been achieved following completion of tablets, a follow-up will be arranged to discuss next steps.

More information for the above medication is available online.

Is my medication funded by the NHS?

The hospital/ your GP will provide the required medication without a cost if you are entitled to NHS funded treatment (prescription dispensing fee still applies). For example: ovulation induction with Clomiphene/Letrozole. You will collect a prescription and obtain your medication from your local pharmacy/hospital.
