The Paediatric Physiotherapy department care for children in both inpatient and outpatient settings at Heartlands Hospital.
Referrals to the service must be made by a GP or hospital consultant.
Inpatient paediatric physiotherapy
The inpatient team will see any child that requires physiotherapy intervention. This includes those with the following conditions:
- Respiratory
- Orthopaedic
- Neurological
Outpatient paediatric orthopaedic physiotherapy
The outpatient orthopaedic team offer a range of physiotherapy services which includes:
- Musculoskeletal assessment and treatment
- Gait assessment
- Hydrotherapy
- Hip screening
- Congenital orthopaedic anomalies management
Outpatient paediatric respiratory physiotherapy
The outpatient respiratory physiotherapy service sees children with a range of respiratory conditions such as:
- Asthma
- Cystic fibrosis
- Bronchiectasis
- Dysfunctional breathing
Paediatric neurology and developmental physiotherapy
The paediatric neurology and developmental physiotherapy service is a national centre for neuromuscular conditions and forms part of a large multidisciplinary team.
The service sees any child under the age of five with neuro developmental needs, including those born prematurely and those with cerebral palsy.
Our community colleagues accept referrals for any child over the age of five.
