Questions
- Do you have some specialist nurses that does assist during liver transplant procedure or any scrub nurse can scrub and assist for liver transplant?
- Do you have an agenda for change grade banding system for those staff who can assist for liver transplant procedure?
- How does your on call system work for those who does liver transplant?
- Does your liver transplant team are allocated to do other specialities /emergency cases if there is no liver transplant book on the day?
- What are the roles and responsibilities of theatre band 6/clinical leader in your Trust?
Response
- We do not have specialist nurses for liver transplants. Theatre practitioners are trained in-house to perform this role.
- The banding is the same across all specialities within theatres.
- We cover 24 hours on weekends, during weekdays on call periods commence at the end of the shift. For example, if regular shift is from 8am-6pm then on-call period is from 6pm-8am the following morning.
- Our liver transplant theatre is also utilised for Liver and Hepatobiliary emergencies and elective cases. All theatres within our department are expected to support general emergency theatres and other specialities when our theatre is not in use or have the spare staff to facilitate this.

- Undertake appraisals
- Undertake return to work sickness interviews
- Undertake probationary reviews
- Participate in recruitment
- Order equipment/loan kits/stores
- Review operating lists
- Review and comment on local policies
- Undertake health and safety work
