Volume of waste at the QEH
Questions
1. Information regarding the volume of waste generated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. I am writing a dissertation regarding the wastage which has been generated as a result of the pandemic, looking specifically at PPE.
2. Information on the volume of waste (domestic and clinical, separately) which has been generated year on year from the start of 2019 to the end of 2022. I am unsure how the hospital tracks the volume of waste, but if there is information on weight, then this would be very much appreciated. If it is only possible to provide the information in terms of a financial year, then would it be possible to provide 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/21, 21/22.
Response
1. We do not hold this information. Waste data is not broken down specifically so we would not be able to provide this information. PPE includes a range of products from gloves to mask etc that would be disposed of as hazardous waste. We would be unable to identify wastage caused by the pandemic.
2.
Please note - 2022 data is not available until 1st April 2023, figures are in tonnes.
We do not hold this information for 2018/19.
