Staff contacted for support because of homeless
Questions
Request: How many staff have contacted the workplace for support because they have become homeless.
Response
UHB has over 22,000 staff. Before the cost-of-living crisis the Trust would have one or two colleagues come forward each year looking for support around housing and homelessness.
As the cost of everyday items as well as rent has increased significantly, more colleagues have found their finances stretched and for some there has been an acute impact.
We estimate that in the last 12 months, 50 staff have asked for support who have been homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. There is still a significant stigma around homelessness and have developed a bespoke pathway to support colleagues who find themselves in difficult situations.
