What happens after I submit my application?
If we review your application and you're successful, we will contact you to arrange your virtual work experience placement. This will take place via Microsoft Teams.
How long will it take for a decision to be made on my application?
Due to the volume of application forms we receive, it can sometimes take a while to review them all. We aim to give you a response within three weeks of receiving your application.
How will I know what time to log in to complete my work experience?
After your confirmation letter, we will email the link to log in to Microsoft Teams, along with times and dates. We expect 100% commitment for the entirety of the programme.
My school is doing a work experience week and I need to have my placement details confirmed in advance but the dates aren’t available yet. What should I do?
We work in conjunction with the schools . If you're in year 10 or 11 you must apply for a place through your school.
Do you work with my school?
We have a list of schools we usually work with, but we will still consider your application form if your school is not on the list.
We give priority to schools within a 5 mile radius of each of our hospitals:
- Good Hope Hospital
- Heartlands Hospital
- Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
- Solihull Hospital
Which year groups are eligible for virtual work experience?
Pupils from years 10 to 13 who have an interest in working within a healthcare setting are eligible to apply for our “Insight into the NHS" virtual work experience, as long as it is part of their school’s work experience programme.
All placements are subject to availability.
Will I be able to shadow a healthcare professional?
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all in-house, face-to-face work experience placements have been suspended.
What should I expect from work experience?
We aim to provide guest speakers from different professions within healthcare.
You can also expect to see the following on the programme:
- Question and answer sessions with healthcare professionals
- Interactive sessions
- Videos
- Quizzes
The programme is subject to change and content will depend on who is available at the time.
Will there be any one-to-one sessions with the guest speakers?
Unfortunately, the guest speakers will only have time to address the whole group, but will always be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Will I receive a reference for attending the online course?
Providing you have completed the whole course you will receive a certificate to say that you have successfully completed the online work experience course.
Unfortunately we will be unable to provide a personal reference.
Will all the guest speakers have medical roles within the NHS?
No. Our aim is to show you what a vast range of career paths and roles there are within the NHS, so speakers may be from any staff group.
Will I be able to ask questions and speak to the presenters or guest speakers during the course?
The presenters and guest speakers will be happy to answer any questions you may have at the end of each session. Interaction is encouraged.
Are there any restrictions?
If you're under 18, you will need to obtain permission from a responsible adult, guardian or parent to take part in the virtual work experience.
Due to the nature of the topics we cover, some of our videos may contain content that you might find upsetting.
