Dr Sarah Manney (Research)Deputy Head of Research Governance - Quality Assurance (QA)

With more than 25 years' experience in healthcare research at UHB and previously at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Sarah's career began in air pollution science, where she led pioneering exposure studies in cardiology and respiratory medicine. As a registered clinical scientist, Sarah built and managed a wide-ranging respiratory research portfolio while completing her PhD on “Exhaled breath condensate - EBC”, presenting her work at national and international stages and earning several awards — including an Advancing Healthcare Award for improving services for patients with vocal cord dysfunction.

Since 2013, Sarah has focused on Quality Assurance, drawing on her hands‑on research background to support teams, troubleshoot challenges, and strengthen the systems that underpin safe, high‑quality research. Sarah is passionate about the role the NHS plays in advancing healthcare and firmly believes that every contribution — including those in QA — helps improve outcomes for patients.

Today, Sarah leads a growing team of QA specialists, all with extensive research delivery experience, giving a uniquely strong foundation to support studies and uphold the highest standards across the organisation.
