Jonathan BrothertonChief Executive
Jonathan has worked in Birmingham and Solihull since 2014, initially joining Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) as Director of Operations, before becoming Chief Operating Officer (COO) when University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) and HEFT merged in 2018. In addition to holding the COO role, Jonathan was appointed Deputy Chief Executive in February 2022. He became interim UHB Chief Executive in January 2023 and was appointed substantively in July 2023.
Jonathan joined the NHS in 1992 as a trainee paramedic in Worcestershire, working clinically for 12 years, before moving into full-time management. He graduated with a Masters’ degree in Management Studies in 2007 and has worked in senior leadership roles in a number of acute hospital trusts, regional ambulance services and the National Intensive Support Team.
