Dame Yve BucklandChair
Dame Yve started her professional life as an archivist, having completed a history degree and archives training at Leeds and Liverpool universities. She went on to have a series of managerial roles in local government, working for Cheshire and Birmingham councils, and in the early 1990s was appointed City secretary and Deputy Chief Executive by Nottingham City Council, the first female chief officer in the council.
Between 2000 and 2005, Yve was appointed by the Government to set up and Chair the Health Development Agency, a Board which put together the evidence base for tackling key public health problems such as childhood obesity and smoking-related diseases. In 2003 she was awarded a DBE for her work in this area.
Dame Yve went on to become Chair of the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, a post she held from 2005 to 2010 and, between 2005 and 2015, was the Chair of the Consumer Council for Water for England and Wales. She was Chair of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital until January 2020 and chaired the Dudley Group Foundation Trust between 2018 and 2022.
She was appointed the first female Pro-Chancellor of Aston University in 2017, an office which she held until March 2024.
Dame Yve became the substantive Chair of Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board in 2022, leading the health arm of the ICS, which is a collaboration of all health and social care organisations; including NHS, local authority, and the voluntary and community sector.
Dame Yve moved across from the ICB in January 2023 to join UHB as Chair to provide stability during the recovery of services for patients and staff and to build on the work already in place to respond to unprecedented demand on health and care services.
She is also an adviser to the DERA Commission on the future of water commission and a Trustee of the Tessa Jowell Foundation.
