Dr Rifat RashidHospital Executive Director for Heartlands Hospital

Rifat Rashid is the Hospital Executive Director for Heartlands Hospital and is a Consultant in Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Medicine.

She began her medical career in 1997 at the University of St Andrews where she completed her pre-clinical undergraduate training before graduating from the University of Manchester with her BSc in MBChB Medicine and Surgery in 2000. Having completed her SHO training in Manchester, she embarked upon her specialist registrar training in respiratory medicine in the West Midlands Deanery. Rifat started her UHB career as a registrar in 2006 and was then appointed a consultant in 2012.

Rifat’s senior leadership journey began in 2018 when she was appointed as Deputy Divisional Director for Emergency and Acute Medicine and in 2020, she was appointed as the Site Responsible Clinician (SRC) for Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH) and led Heartlands Hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rifat was a Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) before being appointed as Hospital Executive Director for Heartlands Hospital in 2023. Her ethos for the site is that Heartlands Hospital is at the heart of the community it serves; where services are delivered, and care is provided in tandem to the diverse needs of local patients. It is also where local people can find rewarding and fulfilling jobs.

Under her leadership Heartlands Hospital has established strong community and partnership links, resulting in Heartlands’ involvement in the East Locality Hub, which is delivering hospital services closer to patients’ homes.
