From Monday 22 July 2024, the timetable for the shuttle bus which travels between Good Hope and Heartlands will change. Details of the new timetable can be found here:
The change is taking place because the shuttle bus will collect/drop-off at Good Hope’s off-site parking location on the way and way back to Heartlands Hospital.
We know that parking on-site at Good Hope can be difficult, as the hospital is busier than ever, and for many colleagues parking their car has become a source of anxiety. There are various long-term plans being considered to help improve the experience.
In the meantime, if you would like to make use of free off-site parking close to Good Hope for a trial period, and the shuttle bus which brings colleagues onto site, please complete a request form for ‘GHH offsite’ and the car parking team will guide you through the process:
Please note that our off-site spaces have now been filled and you will be added to a waiting list.
You do not need to be an existing permit holder to apply for free Good Hope off-site car parking. The car parks are located less than a mile from the hospital at Upper Reddicroft near Sutton train station (Postcode: B76 6BN, 15 spaces each), Station Street car park (Postcode: B73 6DB, 30 spaces), Anchorage Road car park (Postcode: B74 2PH, 15 spaces) and at South Parade, opposite Plantsbrook School, (Postcode: B72 1QY, 90 spaces).
If you have an existing on-site car parking permit, please temporarily hand this back to the car parking team when collecting the off-site pass for your trial period. Your new pass can be used outside core hours for on-site parking (i.e., after 4pm on weekdays, at weekends and on Bank Holidays).
Parking off-site is free and colleagues, like Lynda, who use the service find it convenient and hassle-free. There are always spaces available and some colleagues walk to the hospital site, which for most people would take around 10 minutes.
There are also changes to car parking arrangements on the hospital site. From Monday 29 January 2024, parking enforcement will begin, and tickets issued will involve a financial penalty. This step is necessary to stop dangerous parking which blocks fire engine access, visibility at pedestrian crossings and dropped kerbs, preventing access for our disabled colleagues, patients and visitors.
If you have a staff permit to park on-site, please display this in your car. Colleagues who are not paying into the staff parking scheme and not displaying a permit, but are using staff permit holder spaces, will also be subject to parking enforcement.
If you have any questions about car parking which aren’t answered in the FAQs below, please get in touch.
Thank you.
Car parking FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Are more disabled spaces being created on-site for colleagues and patients who need them?
We have recently increased the numbers of disabled bays and the number is above the recommended 6%. This is reviewed regularly.
Will the enforcement notices apply to colleagues parked in ‘staff permit only’ spaces who aren’t paying for a staff permit?
Yes – this in the interests of fairness and to prevent dangerous parking because of mismatched demand/capacity.
Will I just get a warning notice?
No – from 29 January 2024, enforcement will involve fines and potentially, legal action. This is necessary to stop dangerous parking which blocks fire engine access, visibility at pedestrian crossings and dropped kerbs, and prevents access for our disabled colleagues, patients, and visitors.
Where does the money raised by fines go?
The money is reinvested into car parking and traffic management improvements such as equipment, road surfacing, new car parks, security, signage, and CCTV.
Will patients and visitors be subject to the same rules and enforcement?
Yes. There are always spaces available in the patient/visitor car parks.
I’m on the waiting list for an on-site staff parking permit – will this still be processed?
Your position on the waiting list will not be affected and your onsite permit will be processed when a space becomes available. The car parking team will contact you when you have reached the top of the list and are able to make that offer.
How many staff are on the waiting list for an on-site permit at Good Hope?
There are 913 colleagues on the waiting list.
Will the decision to use the BHH/GHH shuttle bus be reviewed as demand may exceed capacity?
The demand and capacity will be analysed on weekly basis. If there is significant shortfall in capacity due to increased demand, a decision will be made by the Exec team whether to introduce a new direct shuttle service from the hospital to the off-site car parks.
What is the long-term solution for car parking?
Plans are being developed for a multi-storey parking solution on site at Good Hope. This would be a long-term option and so free off-site parking has been developed as an interim solution.
