Dr Ayman BannagaGastroenterology Consultant

Background of training from Aberdeen, Hull, Sheffield, Coventry and Birmingham. Dr Bannaga completed a PhD at the University of Warwick, where he investigated biomarkers in liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

His clinical and research interests span inflammatory bowel disease, general hepatology, endoscopy and disease biomarkers. Dr Bannaga is also a committed educator and supervisor; he is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

Dr Bannaga was nominated as impactful trainer, by internal medical trainees at QEHB. Dr Bannaga’s clinical and research work has been recognised both nationally and internationally, earning him prestigious awards such as the Turner-Warwick Prize of the Royal College of Physicians London, the President Medal of the Midlands Gastroenterological Society, and the National Scholar Award of the United European Gastroenterology.

Dr Bannaga was finalist for both oral and poster clinical presentation prizes at the Royal Society Medicine. Dr Bannaga was recognised by valuable research reviewer award from the American College of Gastroenterology. Additionally, Dr Bannaga received competitive funding awards from the Medical and Life Sciences Research Fund, Midlands Gastroenterological Society, the Aileen Lynn Award of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and British Society of Gastroenterology/GUTS UK.

Dr Bannaga is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He also holds degrees in medical education and transferable skills in science.
