Shakila Kosar is a passionate community advocate with a strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and improving opportunities for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, and the wider community. She lives in Great Barr and has dedicated much of her professional and voluntary work to supporting her local community.
Shakila is the founder of BSL Silver (CIC), through which she delivers British Sign Language (BSL) workshops and community activities to promote communication, awareness, and inclusion. She regularly volunteers her time to support others and believes that everyone should have equal access to information, services, and opportunities.
Alongside her community work, Shakila works at Solihull College, where she teaches BSL and helps learners develop valuable communication skills. She previously worked for Birmingham City Council, supporting Deaf adults with English and Maths education, helping individuals build confidence and achieve their personal goals.
As an advocate for Deaf people, Shakila is committed to ensuring that the voices and experiences of underrepresented communities are heard. Through her role as an elected Lichfield, North West and North East public Governor UHB, she hopes to use her experience, knowledge, and understanding of community needs to help promote accessible, compassionate, and inclusive healthcare services.
Outside of her professional and voluntary work, Shakila is married and a proud mother of four children. She is dedicated to serving her community and supporting the NHS values of care, respect, and equality for all.
