Help shape the future of healthcare for Black communities

The Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) BioResource is inviting individuals from Black communities, both with and without health conditions, to take part in vital research.

This new initiative, led by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BioResource in collaboration with King’s College London and Genomics England, focuses on health conditions affecting people from Black communities in the UK.

Historically, health research has often overlooked the specific needs and experiences of Black communities, resulting in findings that may not apply to them.

The IBHO BioResource aims to address this gap by ensuring better representation of Black communities in research, helping to ensure that health advancements benefit everyone.

The IBHO BioResource defines Black communities as individuals from the following ethnic backgrounds: Black African, Black Caribbean, Black African-Caribbean, Black British, Black Welsh, Black Irish, Black Scottish, Dual or Mixed Black heritage, and/or Black ‘other’.

How to get involved

Anyone who meets the inclusion criteria is invited to take part - whether you're a patient, a member of staff, or a friend or family member.

If you would like to join the programme, you will be asked to provide a blood or saliva sample and fill in a health and lifestyle questionnaire.

You will also be asked to complete a consent form that explains how your data and samples will be used and enables you to be matched with specific research studies.

To register your interest or find out more, please reach out to Humeira Hafsa or Kimberley Benjamin via email or by telephone.
