UHB named top NHS employer for apprenticeships

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has marked another milestone for learners by earning a place in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers for 2024.
UHB is the first employer in the new top 100 to have over 1000 apprentices currently working at the Trust. The Trust came 73rd and was the top NHS employer in the list.
The launch programme was broadcast live and was presented by Martin Birchall from High Fliers Research and Chanise Evans, a former apprentice at the BBC.
Employers who made the list were also invited to attend a special lunch reception at the House of Commons.
Hosted by Baroness Jacqui Smith, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education, the lunch provided an opportunity to network with representatives from the other employers featured in this year’s rankings, along with members of the Apprenticeships Directorate at the Department of Education.
UHB was represented at the event by Simon Jarvis, Hospital Executive Director for Good Hope Hospital, a long-time champion of apprenticeships at the Trust.
Apprenticeships provide a supported route into the organisation for new employees while allowing existing staff to develop their skills within their current role with all education costs provided through the apprenticeship levy. 644 apprentices have completed their programme since 2017, including 67 in management, 81 in business administration and customer service, and 349 in nursing.
