The School of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Midwifery at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Nursing Times Workforce Awards celebrate outstanding work to support and strengthen the health and care workforce. They recognise organisations and individuals driving excellence in areas such as professional development, recruitment, retention, wellbeing and inclusion.

The Trust has been shortlisted in the Best Workplace for Learning and Development category.

UHB's shortlisted entry, ‘Beyond the tick box: education that improves care’, showcases how the Trust has used its status as an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Nursing Continuing Professional Development Accredited Provider to transform the way education is designed and delivered.

Rather than focusing on attendance alone, the approach identifies gaps in professional practice. Education is then developed in response to the needs of services and patients. Its impact on practice, patient safety and quality of care is also evaluated.

Prof. Ruth Pearce, from the University of Birmingham, said: “The recognition reflects the dedication of colleagues across the School of Nursing, AHPs and Midwifery and clinical services. They are committed to ensuring learning is meaningful, evidence-based and translates into better outcomes for patients, colleagues and communities.
