Dhruv Parekh (Research)Medical Director of Research and Innovation
Professor Dhruv Parekh is Consultant in Intensive Care and Respiratory Medicine, Medical Director for Research and Innovation, and Director of the NIHR Birmingham Clinical Research Facility at University Hospitals Birmingham. He is also Deputy Director of the NIHR Central and West Midlands Commercial Research Delivery Centre and Lead of the Acute Care Research Group at the University of Birmingham. He oversees a broad portfolio of academic and industry-sponsored research and works across NHS, academic, regulatory and industry sectors to advance research and innovation.
His research spans translational science, experimental medicine and large-scale clinical trials in acute, respiratory and critical care. He is particularly interested in reducing health inequalities, improving access to research, accelerating the adoption of innovations, and supporting clinical academic careers.
Dhruv serves on the Council of the College of Intensive Care Medicine as National Academic Lead, contributing to national policy, workforce development and research strategy. His vision is to ensure that research is embedded within healthcare delivery and accessible to every patient and healthcare professional.
