Get involved with the CRF

Patient involvement in research is a key part of the NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (CRF).

All CRF studies are designed to benefit patients, meaning patient involvement and experience are essential to the way the CRF is run.

The top three achievements of the CRF from 2019 – 2020 were:

  1. translating discovery science findings into clinical research. This included work on faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) to achieve and maintain remission for ulcerative colitis patients
  2. recruiting to rare diseases or harder-to-recruit trials with success. This included complex studies involving intrathecal administration medicinal dosing across our joint CRF
  3. taking part in the first phase II immunisation trial in immunosuppressed children with renal transplants at the paediatric CRF. Our research nurses worked with University Hospitals Birmingham's world-class Renal Unit to deliver the landmark study
