Cancer research

One of our five planned priorities is making sure that we are a centre for pioneering research. We strive to make sure that all our patients are offered research as part of their treatment regardless of their protected characteristics. Our aim is to provide inclusive opportunities and a diverse research portfolio that meets the varied needs of our patients.

Cancer research trials are active and open to recruitment at all four of our hospital sites. New trials are launched across our hospitals on an ongoing basis to make sure cancer patients have access to a range of treatment options. These trials offer patients the opportunity to receive treatments not yet approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. Contributing to research and improved standards of care aimed at better understanding specific cancers and their treatment.

Once a patient consents to join a research trial, we make sure the research nurse and team caring for them are highly skilled in cancer care. Having the expertise to provide support tailored to their specific needs throughout the trial. All of our research staff have completed Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, which ensures that the research conducted at our hospitals meets the highest standards and that the correct regulatory approvals are in place.

Trials are carried out either alongside standard care on our cancer wards and clinics or sometimes within dedicated research facilities located at some of our hospital sites.

If you are interested in research and would like to take part in clinical trials, please visit our Research and Development website to find out more about how to get involved.
