Some of our outpatient diagnostic appointments are now held at the Washwood Heath Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) rather than on our main hospital sites. Services include appointments for:
- Ultrasound scans
- MRI
- X-ray scans
- Echo-cardiograms
- Teledermatology services
- Lung function tests
- Blood tests
What are the benefits?
Patients, who are under the care of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) living in the east of Birmingham, will now benefit from appointments sooner, and closer to home.
For patients requiring more than one type of scan, the centre will aim to provide these in one visit to reduce travelling and waiting times for diagnoses.
The centre is equipped with the latest equipment, including a state-of-the-art digital radiography X-ray system for patients needing a chest X-ray or X-ray due to osteoarthritis. Approximately 16,000 patients a year will be able to have X-ray appointments at the new centre, which helps to ensure that patients are seen in a more timely way.
To ensure privacy and space the centre has changing areas by the X-ray rooms, which ensure the best possible patient experience.
