We are a team of children’s nurses, learning disability nurses & nurse associates.
All children and young people attending a Solihull special school have access to our team. We provide an onsite service to support clinical need at Reynalds Cross and Merstone schools, whilst at At Hazel Oak and Forest Oak we make regular visits and are available for telephone advice.
Our team provide advice and guidance on a variety of issues, including:
- Health assessment and creation of care plans for use in school
- Support for children with medical conditions / complex health needs, requiring daily and emergency intervention for epilepsy, respiratory difficulties, nutritional requirements, and diabetes management etc
- Training and education for school staff around health needs and supporting staff with ‘trouble shooting’
- Monitoring growth and development
- Assessing and reviewing continence needs, promoting continence and supporting families
- Parenting advice and support
- Emotional health and well-being support for pupils
- Confidential sexual health advice
- Referral to and liaison with local services
- Child protection / safeguarding
- Medicines management in school, including emergency medication, inhalers, seizure medicines, and Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs)
- Infection control advice and support for school staff
