Cotrimoxazole

Cotrimoxazole is used to prevent bacterial infections, particularly lung and urinary tract infections, you will be prescribed an antibiotic. Cotrimoxazole contains two medicines called trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. Cotrimoxazole comes as 480 mg tablets. It should be taken once every alternate day. If you are allergic to either of these medicines, you must make the kidney transplant team aware and an alternative can be prescribed. The kidney transplant team will let you know when you can stop this medication, usually six months after the transplant.
