How to make a basic ICE imaging request

So, you go to test requests, you click on online test requests, click on, click on the provider that provides your pathology results, which in our case is the Heartlands site. And that will automatically open the same page or the tab that you normally have the window that you have for requesting blood results.

What you'll see now new is in the top left-hand corner is a tab for imaging, it will bring you the different modalities of radiology requests that you can make. So we've got X-rays, you can search for something. So for example, if you couldn't find where to find groin X-ray, you do a search for groin, it'll bring up ultrasound scan, left or right groin. If you want to request an X-ray chest, click on X-ray chest, continue with the request. Automatic it'll populate all the patient details.

The name of the clinician, this is a routine request, it's already populated for you. If you were a locum doctor or a trainee, then you would be able to change the name of the person that you needed to do this. So you could change it to another doctor at your practice to be able to make this work otherwise just progress this so it's you and your name is correct.

If you accept the request, you can then go on to a box, which allows you to write which history so cough. For six weeks, you can put in if the person can mobilise walk or not. Next, you've got to put in if there's any accessibility requirements for that person. So do they need oxygen? Maybe there's a problem with sight do that you click on control and can sight control allows you to choose multiple things, any risk factors for the patient? None in this case. Does the patient have the capacity to consent? Yes. Are they happy to be contacted by text message? Yes, which site would they like to go to which is preferred. And you can choose any of these, even though the patient may get an earlier appointment at another site, but put down the preference that they might have. So let's say Queen Elizabeth, if you press OK. After this, if because you've clicked on accessibility issues with visual, it will ask you about visual aid requirements. Or anything else that's appropriate. Press OK. It will then take a final page almost we're almost there.

The patient is aware that they may be offered the first appointment at any UHB site, so it's worth making sure that patient's aware. If you're not sure about the criteria for requesting that test, if you click on this link more information, it will take you through to the UHB page which shows you the latest criteria for different different modalities and for different requests.

If you want to give a patient and information leaflet about the chest X-ray process, you click on more information, it will open a page and it will give you something that you can print out to give to the patient or send a link to about what happens with the X-ray.

Finally, it's worth making the patient aware if their chest X-ray is abnormal, that they'll automatically be sent for a CT scan or an abdominal scan as appropriate based on what the findings are. So make sure the patient is aware that may happen. But in either case, what happened if they get sent for a CT scan, the GP will continue to act as the referrer. For that patient and information the results will come back via the person back to the GP as well as following the non lung cancer CT scan findings pathway.

It's important to make sure the patient has had a recent eGFR in the last six months. Press OK. OK, this page will appear where it will ask you can you can you file the data into EMIS? And if you press OK to that, you will see that very clearly there in the top corner. X-ray is now recorded and filed.

If you press on online test requests, choose your location that you send your pathology results to, choose the imaging tab. And let's in this case, go through one of them. So if you look at this, on the right-hand side are the routine diagnostics you request or the request will go through to the hospital, they will look at it and then send the patient an appointment.

If you want a walk-in chest X-ray, which are only done at Washwood Heath at the moment, and it's something where you suspected cancer, you can click on that. But if you click on the walk-in chest X-ray request, it will ask you why the first pop box that appears straightaway is request why. So in this case, you're thinking about a intrathoracic malignancy. If you OK, that it will then ask you a few set of questions which are already in the same as the forms we use why are you asking for this is there a history of asbestos exposure. No. As a patient, and then it asks you to choose some criteria for why you want to use this. So in this case, maybe weight loss, unexplained haemoptysis. So if you use control, you can choose two reasons.

And then tells you that these this is the appropriate pathway. If again, if it's not the right, if you can't find anything in that, it will explain at the bottom, please close this request and then click on using a standard X-ray request where you can explain why you want something more urgent. Press OK.

If after you've done that, and then you press continue with request, then you end up back in the same place but notice this time around what's populated is the priority is now done as urgent. So this will go into a different inbox at the hospital where they will process it as urgent under that pathway. And then your details are filled out you can again change the name of the doctor if needed. Accept the request.

Fill in all the forms as normal. Oxygen, no allergies. Yes. Yes, if they want a text message, it will only give you one option which is Washwood Heath. Press OK.

Again, patients's aware. You can look at guidelines if you want to. Again tick if they've been made aware of the chest X-ray may be converted to a CT scan, and also the eGFR has been done. Press OK. OK, and in this case, you can normally have the option that you need to print the request and give it to the patient, you don't need to because this request also goes electronically to and you can see this chest walk-in to go straight to Washwood Heath.

So online test requests, let's say we were choosing another pathway. So MRI scan of the head.

On here, if you were asking for an MRI scan of the spine, it will, it'll say, who's which advice and guidance have you had. So it will ask for advice and guidance to be completed as part of the request. So when you complete the request there will be a box there saying please paste in this advice and guidance. So make sure you do that. But if you choose any of the other images, it will ask you to complete the criteria. So if you want an MRI scan of the head, again, a box will appear asking you to fill in the criteria. OK. And we've had the same thing with all the different groups. So CT, urinary tract, again, it will ask you to confirm that the criteria for requesting our tests are completed. So please make sure your clinicians know that this is it's important they complete the criteria.

All the rest of you do not need to print anything off at all, you don't need to sign anything either. So you can give them this request. And they can go to Washwood Heath and have their X-ray done there.

Let me just show one last thing, online test request, let's say we were choosing another pathway. So MRI scan of the head.
