Message from Dr David Rosser, Chief Executive

Dear Colleague,

As we move into what is likely to be the busiest week yet of this pandemic, please can I once again thank all of you for everything you have done, and everything you will be doing, over the coming days and weeks to treat and protect our patients, our staff and all our families. This extraordinary effort is a total team effort. Whatever your role in this organisation you are all equally valued and without this collective purpose we would not have been able to make the staggering preparations, service changes, staffing rotas and support systems to deal so professionally and calmly with this unprecedented chain of events.

As I reported on Friday, UHB’s expertise is also being put into action to lead on delivering NHS Nightingale Hospital Birmingham at the NEC. The progress made on this site in just a few days, to turn it from a vast warehouse into an initial 500-bedded patient facility, is quite unbelievable. It’s yet another example of our UHB and NHS teams pulling out all the stops alongside our military, ambulance, contractor and NEC partners to make this happen.

I am so proud and full of admiration for all that you are doing – although to honest, I never thought you would react and step up to the mark in any other, but this remarkable, way.

Thank you.
