The Birmingham Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC), jointly funded by Cancer Research UK and the National Institute for Health Research, is led by Professor Gary Middleton. It has an international reputation for innovation in personalised medicine, with the development of novel, stratified studies driven in partnership with the University of Birmingham CRUK Clinical Trials Unit and University Hospitals Birmingham Clinical Research Facility.

Strengths of the ECMC include:

  • the development of innovative immunotherapeutic strategies and experimental haematology studies
  • optimising the delivery of personalised medicine to patients, precisely and effectively targeting their molecular signatures 
  • a growing portfolio of advanced therapy studies 
  • identifying new biomarkers, to stratify patients and predict responses to treatment
