Looking back at 2024

Published on 15/01/2025

As the new year starts, we have been taking a look back at 2024.

Facts and figures compiled from the past year give a fascinating insight into the work carried out at University Hospitals Birmingham. These include:

  • Last year 426,303 patients attended our emergency departments
  • There were 1.9 million outpatient appointments
  • 4.9 million tests were carried out in our laboratories
  • We employed 2,901 new staff

We’ve put together a short video review of the year, highlighting these and more amazing statistics, as well as highlighting many of our good news stories from throughout 2024.

These focus on the outstanding work of some of our staff and the extraordinary stories of some of our patients. The video also looks at performance highlights and other achievements and looks ahead to what’s coming up in 2025.
