New urgent care services coming to Heartlands Hospital

Big changes are underway at Heartlands Hospital as we work to transform our urgent care services. With the development of the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and plans for a brand-new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), this will provide quicker and more effective care for patients.

Here’s what’s happening over the next few months:

Urgent Care Centre progress

The construction of the UCC is well on its way. Situated where the old ‘Clinic 9’ is now, this new modern hub is designed to improve care for adults and children needing urgent, non-emergency care. Patients can expect:

·Dedicated adult and paediatric resuscitation areas, seven consulting rooms, a plaster room and nurse assessment area

·A baby-changing and feeding room available to make the space more accessible and comfortable for families

·Accessible toilet facilities

Construction is set to be finished in May 2026, and once completed, it will help reduce wait times and provide more efficient care for minor injuries that have been triaged from the Emergency Department.

Plans for the Urgent Treatment Centre

In addition to the UCC, we are planning a new UTC which will provide an alternative to A&E for patients who require immediate attention but aren’t in danger of a life-threatening emergency.

By positioning the newly configured UTC close to our Emergency Department (A&E), we aim to improve patient flow and reduce waiting times. This will help us to ensure that patients are seen by the right care team at the right time. Depending on their condition, patients will be seen in either the A&E, UCC, or UTC. With all these services co-located, patients will experience a smoother transition between care areas, allowing for faster and more efficient treatment.

To prepare for the new UTC, construction work is underway including demolition in the former outpatients’ building where Clinic 9 is currently located.
